Avoid Tulip Poplars and Sycamores in small spaces because they grow massive and drop heavy debris. Also avoid Bradford Pears, which smell unpleasant when blooming and are prone to splitting in storms.

For proper filtration and clear water, circulate the entire volume of the pond every two hours. This ensures that nitrogen-rich water consistently comes into contact with beneficial bacteria in the filter.

Before the first frost, remove the plant from the pond and wash the soil from the tuber. Store it in damp sphagnum moss inside a sealed plastic container kept in a frost-free location above freezing through winter. Replant the following spring once water temperatures have warmed.

A pondless water feature is a waterfall or stream that recirculates water into a hidden, rock-filled underground reservoir rather than an open pond. It provides the sound and movement of water with significantly less maintenance than a traditional fish pond, and without standing open water.
